Avoiding Mailing Mistakes

One of the best ways to market yourself is to do mailings.  Unfortunately, many licensees have given up on mailings because they haven’t had success with mailings in the past.  Here are some of the reasons their mailings haven’t been successful.

Mailing something that has to be opened by the recipient to get your message across.  Postcards are great because you’ve got a chance to make an impression before it is thrown in the trash as “junk mail”.  (Yes, just because it’s very important to you, it’s still junk mail to them.) (#s)

Not having enough color in your mailing or having the mailing be “all words” or “all graphics”. Selective use of appropriate graphics can reinforce your message.

Lack of personalization. Using labels makes your mailings instantly seen as “junk mail”.  Hand writing the recipients name and address, as well as signing your name, will personalize the mailing

Another “junk mail” give away is addressing your mailings to “homeowner”, “occupant”, “future homeowner”, etc, instead of using their names.

One of the biggest mistakes is making the mailing all about you instead of the recipient.

Another big mistake is not giving a reason to respond.  A call for action is an important section of any marketing materials.

A boring mailing will not help your business. Make your mailing interesting.

The main reason mailings fail is not having an on-going strategy to keep the mailings going.  Experts say it takes 6 or more “impressions” for you mailings to be noticed….and more to really have an effect.
