The Business Plan

In the last article we talked about why you need to do business planning.  Now we’ll look at how to do business planning.  The basic elements of a business plan are:

1.  Mission Statement.
2.  The Plan.
3.  The Budget.

Your Mission Statement

This is a one sentence overview of what you believe your mission is.  Those who are truly successful know why they do what they are doing.  Each person has to figure this our for themselves.

The Plan

The first step in Strategic Planning is establishing your basic goals.  Each goal should be specific, attainable, and measurable.  “Get more listings” is not a well written goal.  “List 6 homes each month by (date)” is a lot better, unless of course, you aren’t taking any listings currently.

After your general goals are established, you need to decide on the action steps you need to take to accomplish your goals.

If you would like a little bit of help on this step, just go to our “Basic Business Plan for Building Your Business”.  It’s got the basic items you’ll want to cover in your plan and some of the tools to help you in each area.

In future article we’ll give you the formulas you need to calculate exactly how much business you’ll have to do to reach your dollar goals.  Some of you may have seen formulas like this and some may not have, so we are including for those of you who haven’t seen it.  The issue after that we will go into the budget.
