What e-mail address do you use in your business?

Most business people we work with use a professional e-mail address in their work place.  What do you think that they think of a REALTOR who uses an AOL, MSN, Yahoo, Juno, etc. e-mail address?  You need to have a professional e-mail address and it is best if it corresponds with your web site name.

Some real estate professionals use e-mail addresses provided by their company as a solution to having a professional e-mail address.  That only helps brand your company and not you!  And do you really know that you are getting all the leads that come to your e-mail address.  How do you know they aren’t given to you as a referral instead of as your prospect?   Even if you think you are perfectly happy with your current company, you never know what the future will bring.  If you change companies, or if your company changes names, changes franchises or is bought our, e-mails to you at the old address will just bounce back and the leads you have worked so hard to generate will end up going somewhere else!  Remember, the company or franchise gives you that e-mail address to try to keep you from changing companies!

Other e-mail hints:

1.  Have the ability to use unlimited names (before the @) for your domain name (after the @).

2.  Have your professional e-mail forwarded automatically to whoever does your hosting and will appear in Outlook or Outlook Express along with all of your other e-mail.

3.  Use Outlook or Outlook Express as your filing cabinet for important e-mails.  If you use e-mail as your primary method of communications you will always have written proof of everything that was communicated!

4.  Using Outlook or Outlook Express, you can set up rules that send e-mails directly to the folder they should be kept in.

Another important thing about e-mail:

Do you know if you are getting all of your e-mail?  If your ISP (Internet Service Provider) has spam protection, you are NOT getting all of your e-mail.  One of the criterion they use is "high volume servers".  Some ISPs even have battles and block each other's e-mails.  I learned recently that some ISPs are very undependable.  It finally got so bad that I noticed it.  Now I am using eMailPlus from InternetCrusade.  My e-mail comes and goes directly through their server and bypasses the ISP (Internet Service Provider).  In fact, right now my computer is at the office and I don't even have my own ISP.  When I brought it in, I didn't have to do anything to make it work here.  I have unlimited e-mail addresses (the part before the @), can add unlimited users, can add unlimited mailboxes and have auto responders to any of them I want.  I can even forward individual e-mails to where ever I want them to go.  Not bad!  Now I know I'm getting all my e-mail and all my e-mail is getting out.
