Search Engine 101

When buyers go on-line, they usually go to the top two search engines, Google and Yahoo.

So how to you get good placement on these search engines?

The answer is "search engine optimization".

We aren't experts in search engine optimizations, but have studied it in detail.  We also try to keep up with the changes in the field.

To place well, a site must:

  • have good relevant information that relates to the web site name (url) and keywords
  • not have very much duplicate content with other sites.
  • have in bound links from popular sites.
  • have out bound links to related sites.
  • not participate in traditional "reciprocal linking" programs that look like link farms to the search engines.
  • have links from relevant niche directories.
  • not have all in bound links looking exactly the same.
  • not having in bound links from pages with more than 50 to 100 links per page.

I have worked hard on my sites.  When I was still in Northeast Oklahoma, there were showing up very well in the search engines.  Since the move back to St. Louis, I have dropped some sites, added some sites and have been making massive changes on my sites.  There is also a lot more competition.  But I am still pleased with how they are doing with the search engine.  I have my referral network to help get me links from others, but try to keep most of my outgoing links going only to my sites or other sites within River City Real Estate!  If the link is going outside of my network of sites, it comes up in a separate window so that when they close the browser window, my site will still be on the other browser window!

Some of my current sites are:

www.VIPRealEstateOK.com This was my main company website in Oklahoma.  Because it is one of my oldest sites (and aging is important to the search engines), I am keeping this site and continuing to use it as my informational site.

www.GreenCountry-RealEstate.com  This was my first lead generation site and is based on the principles in a series of articles on Broker Agent News that were written by the founder of FavoriteAgent.com.  This site is currently for sale since it is for Oklahoma.

My lead generation sites for the St. Louis area include:

www.StCharlesMOStPetersMORealEstate.com

www.FindStCharlesCountyRealEstate.com

www.FindStLouisAreaRealEstate.com

Here are my niche sites:

www.JustForFirstTimeHomeBuyers.com

www.ByOwnerHelpCenter.com

www.SellItNextTime.com

Here is my personal website:

www.Grissette.com  This started out as an example site, but since I was named a Certified e-PRO Trainer by NAR I have been developing the main page as a "landing page" for many of my real estate related activities.

As each website "ages" they start doing better and better with the search engines.  If you do some basic keyword searches on the search engines, you will find that I am not the only one in the area who uses multiples sites as a way to improve "organic" results.

Another method of improving search engine results in to use "Pay Per Click".  River City Real Estate has been using this method quite effectively and will be using in an a primary method of company lead development into the future.
